With that said, we can still do so much as a society to help spread awareness and teach others how to communicate in the digital age.

One of the most preventive approaches to cyberbullying or hate speech is teaching students early on what Internet Etiquette is all about. There have been many case studies, articles, books, etc., that have shown how cyberbullying, online bullying, has taken lives and affects people from all ages and demographics. Without proper manners and etiquette, the customs of polite society would disappear in addition to the dangers of possibly damaging and hurting others to death. I believe that internet etiquette helps us show respect and consideration to others when engaging on any digital platform. I found those rules to be the most important and useful tips when using the internet, merely that the rules challenge my thoughts before I decide to post.

Be forgiving: Everyone makes mistakes, everybody has those days.Don’t Mix Business & Pleasure: Know your audience.Respect others' privacy: Don’t share screenshots.Share with discretion: No genitalia pics. So, the question now is what’s accepted and what’s too much for people to say and share on the internet? And ever since the Coronavirus pandemic sent everyone home and forced people to rely on digital technology, research has shown that internet usage has increased tremendously. This means that 63.2% of the world population uses the internet. That means from the year 2000 to 2020, internet usage has risen by 1,2666%.įurthermore, with a current worldwide estimated population of 7.8 billion, approximately 4.93 billion people have access to and use the internet frequently. According to InternetWorldStats, the number of internet users increased from 413 million in 2000 to over 4.93 billion in 2021. Research has shown that the internet has been one of our most transformative and fast-growing technologies. Despite many efforts to create separation from the internet, it has been evident that as much as society may want to cancel the internet, the internet will not be leaving any time soon. Technology today is so advanced that our ability to use and interact with others on the internet has become so accessible and standard in many of our lives. It is virtually impossible in today’s society not to have had any experience or relationship with the internet. To kick off this blog, I have decided the first topic I want to address is Netiquette or Internet Etiquette.

I am so excited to share this blog and welcome everyone to join and follow the conversation. The purpose of this blog is to bring dialogue and conversation into the unspoken rules of our society. Over twelve weeks, I will be sharing and discussing various categories in direct relation to how each of those topics plays into what society today deems as acceptable and polite behavior. I have decided to title the blog: Not Your Mother’s Guide to Etiquette. After brainstorming, I have decided that the issue I want to cover throughout the semester is 21st Century Etiquette. In this course, my professor has assigned us to create a blog that we will use to share our thoughts and opinions on a topic we have chosen every week. This semester I am taking a course called Social Media & Content Marketing, where I will be learning different types of channels and techniques to create content in today’s landscape.
